OUTREACH

In "Mainstreaming the Arts" Partick Beat would wish to encourage people to experience music and rhythm from all over the world. To this end we would seek to provide workshops as Partick Beat a community based percussion organisation with wide experience in offering workshops to Key Housing (learning disabilities) Asylum Seekers and various school groups also an organisation which includes people from backgrounds of mental health, learning and physical disabilities in their activities as an organisation which takes part in events city wide.

In our experience drumming workshops meet the needs of various client groups in terms of earthing them in their own reality and the fact that it is within everyone's grasp to achieve the rhythms necessary to be part of the group. This leads to an inclusive presence at gigs and performances, including carnival and festivals

Percussion is for us a needs - led experience people want to do it, be part of it, it builds confidence and self esteem
and the development of a social life which comes from being in a "group". If people learn the skills at the basic and intermediate level then they can go on with confidence and self - belief to become part of the gigging band. Through research we have found that percussion
drumming reaches a " chord" within
people, many of whom have no other
method of communication.

The "heartbeat" rhythm of the base
encourages peopleto express
themselves in a way no other
medium has the capacity to
achieve. Its calming, soothing
or awakening - it works as a
means of communication for
thosewith sensory impairment.
