Welcome to the website for
Partick Beat

Community Drummers.
2006

"Percussion that speaks for itself."
Based in Glasgow Scotland Partick Beat have been performing their blend of world beat and tribal drumming and song since 1990.
Over the course of those years many band members have moved on to new ventures becoming involved with bands from all over the world and becoming teachers themselves.
The main core of the Partick Beat sound is the African Djembe. The djembe is a very versatile instrument capable of a variety of tones and voices and is ideal for group syncopation, solo and calls. There are also percussion instruments from Asia and South America as well as home made drums which all add to the colour of the Partick Beat sound.
The playing style and rhythms are influenced by many cultures and the music is probably best described as "World Beat".. Songs are also performed from an eclectic repertoire handed down from the older members or taught by the many visiting teachers and even written by band members themselves.
The policy for recruitment is one of equality and openness to all, with beginners classes being provided for children and special needs groups.
There is also an "Out Reach" service provided by Partick Beat where tutors and band members are involved in giving percussion workshops in schools, youth centers and providing music therapy day/courses for various special needs groups.
If you would like to join Partick Beat just turn up on a Tuesaday evening ( 6.30 - 9.00pm ) at the Dowanhill Primary School or e-mail your inquiresinfo@partickbeat.org.
If you would like to inquire about percussion workshops or music therapy for your service or group please send your details and requests for information by e-mail to outreach@partickbeat.org
